Toblerone Bits

When chocolate is made from Switzerland, you can expect only the best -- and Toblerone is no exception. Every bite promises a delectable combination of honey and nougat in chocolate, and you really couldn't get enough! :) No wonder this is a favorite among chocoholics, and is a staple gift during Valentine's day (and virtually any occasion). Toblerone's bestselling varieties are the milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and the white chocolate bars.

The name "Toblerone" was the result of a combination of the creator, Theodore Tobler's surname and the Italian word for "nougat" (torrone). The chocolate bar was patented in 1909 -- almost a hundred years ago!

The packaging of the chocolate bar was meant to mimic the shape of the Swiss alps, so we get a series of triangular shapes instead of the too-common rectangular bar; because of that, each triangle is supposedly called an alp. Looking closely at the Toblerone logo, we see an image of a bear -- they say it's meant to be a pun on the Swiss town of Bern, home of the first Toblerone bar.
